Where to buy shoes for children?
We have been selecting the best shoes for the natural development of children's feet for 10 years. On the Footic website, you will find proven and healthy shoes for boys and girls of all ages. Our children also wear stylish barefoot shoes from their very first steps to help them develop good walking habits.
Our Footic e-shop allows you to easily filter shoes by size, type, colour, manufacturer, and many other parameters. We will be happy to advise you on how to choose the right shoes on our customer service line - you can contact us via chat, e-mail, phone, Facebook or Instagram. The key is always to measure the length and width of the foot accurately. If you're still unsure how to find the best shoes for your child, check out our regular comparative reviews.
You can also search for kids' shoes by season or purpose. We offer spring, summer, winter, and all-season shoes, but also wellies, infant shoes, first shoes, house slippers, slippers or socks shoes. The most popular brands of barefoot shoes for children include BEDA, Froddo, Bobux, Bundgaard, Koel, FARE, Camper, Be Lenka, Vivobarefoot, or Jonap. We stock all children's shoes and guarantee fast delivery with a return policy of up to three weeks.
Why are children's shoes crucial?
From birth to school age, children undergo a gradual ossification of the skeleton, when the soft cartilaginous base changes into hard bone. Any poor movement patterns or deformities of the foot are acquired by the child by age 6, and these will shape the skeleton for the rest of the child's life. According to data from the Physioclinic, over 90% of children are born with healthy feet, but by the time they enter first grade, over 95% of children have foot deformities! These alarming figures are mainly due to the cheap and inappropriate footwear that parents buy for their children.
What kind of children's shoes to buy?
You need children's shoes that limit the natural development of the foot as little as possible. Look for the following features:
- they fit in the ankle, but are roomy in the toe - so that the foot does not slip in the shoe, but the toes have enough space in length and width to grow and stretch
- flexible in all directions - the overall softness of the shoe flexes well around uneven surfaces, allowing the foot to unwind properly and respond naturally to changing surfaces
- they have a flat sole - the absence of a heel or raised toe keeps the body's centre of gravity in the optimal centre
Barefoot shoes for children have a roomier toe, a thinner and more flexible sole without a heel and are lighter in general, making them a suitable choice for the first steps and subsequent development of the child's foot.
When to buy children's shoes?
Each child's development is individual, but in general the following can be recommended for the first shoes:
- do not give children any shoes until they have spent most of their waking hours walking in an open space
- keep the child completely barefoot (watch out for socks) even then, wherever the environment permits
- check the size of the child's foot and shoes regularly and get a larger size in time (when there is less than 4-5 mm of space left in the shoe)
How to choose children's shoes?
You don't have to torment a restless child with a long shoe fitting in the store, buy online instead and try everything out from the comfort of your home. The choice is easy:
- carefully measure the length and width of the child's foot (e.g. by drawing on paper)
- add an oversize of 10-12 mm (or 5-9 mm for the very first shoe) to give the child room in the shoe
- add both numbers and filter the desired internal dimensions of the shoes in the desired category
- optionally add other parameters to the filter, such as colour, shoe type, manufacturer, season, etc., or get inspiration for differences in shoes in comparison reviews
